Polar Lights® Star Trek® U.S.S. Enterprise NX-01
Stardate: 08.25.2005

The Polar Lights' 1:1000 Scale U.S.S. Enterprise NX-01 model kit has finally arrived.  Mine is on order and is already on it's way here; I can hardly wait. This kit retails for about $12.00 and can be ordered from Federation Models, CultTVMan, Starship Modeler and PNT Models.

Since Polar Lights has been been bought out by RC; they have also announched the re-release of several ERTL/AMT Star Trek model kits.  The Klingon Bird of Prey, Adversary 3 Piece Set, and both U.S.S. Enterprise 3 Piece Sets are set to be out any day now.  You can pre-order these great kits for between $12.00-$15.00 from Starship Modeler.

Polar Lights® Star Trek® U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-A
Stardate: 07.16.2005

The Polar Lights' 1:350 Scale U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-A model kit is finally here!  Weighing in at a "hefty" 6 lbs; this kit contains all the parts and pieces to make either the Enterprise Refit from Star Trek: The Motion Picture or Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan trough Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country.

Like the box states; this kit contains over 150 pieces. Clear Styrene pieces suggest the option to light this kit; it lacks the electrical components to do so.  The kit is extremely detailed and appears to be very accurate to the original studio miniature.  Every detail has been meticulously recreated including the Shuttle Bay, Botanical Gardens, and VIP Lounge. The kit is approximately 35.5 inches when fully assembled and comes with a display stand made to resemble the "dry dock".  I personally don't care for the display stand.  It does not appear sturdy enough to support the kit reliably and not very attractive.  I would suggest replacing the stock display stand with something more solidly stable which could also run electrical wires through it should you choose to light it.

Overall; this kit is perhaps the best Star Trek model that I have ever seen to date.  It is very detailed and comes with equally impressive decals.  I was impressed by how well all the pieces were able to fit into the box. A word of caution when you open the box to inspect the model parts. If you remove the pieces from the box to inspect them (which is hard not to do), you may not be able to get them all back in to where you can close the box.

The kit retails for about $50.00 (not including shipping). You can order this kit from several places such as: Federation Models, CultTVMan, Starship Modeler, and in some cases your local hobby store.

For more information and images about this kit, you can go to Starship Modeler.
